There is so many things to do in Rome… Quick little comments : yes, Pantheon is a quick visit, so it worth it and there is a lot to stroll around as you are right in the historic center. About the fountains, Trevi is really wonderful at night less people also.

I love the idea of laying out the planning stages. Good read Rob, I think you could spend months in Rome and only just scratch the surface of this city. We went a couple of years ago without kids. We are bringing our oldest two to the UK in about a week and they are of the age that they should now appreciate the history. They would have been much happier with us listening to an audio tour on our iphones and exploring ourselves.

Also, If you can go when Rome is less crowded that should be much better for them. Trevi Fountain was a favorite of ours and since we are early risers, we visited about 7am with our cappuccini and hot chocolates in hand and we had the place to ourselves. Highly recommend an early visit!! Love the article! There is just so much to do and see there! I think we could spend a month there and not be bored! Though I have done them all, I still would not mind going back.
I think you have them covered, not sure if you would like to include the Borghese Gallery especially if you want to spend some quite time in the Borghese gardens and looking at Roman art.
